CrashPlan is an online backup and restore utility. It is a good idea to backup all the important data in you computer at regular times. What most people do is backup the data to DVD, to other permanent storage medium, or to some file sharing service.
CrashPlan provides you with two backup options. One is to use their data center, called the “CrashPlan Central” which can be accessed for free during 30 days. After that, you need to pay for the service. The second option is to use a friend’s computer. The only thing your friend needs to do is install the program in his computer, connect to the web and use the code that the program shows. Now, you needn’t worry about your privacy; your friend cannot use your data. Files are sent in an encrypted form and only you can use them after restoring the backups. The Crashplan Central uses the same technique.
Files to Backup should be selected by using the folder and file browser and click the required backup method.
The settings allow you to set the program to automatically do the maintenance work using idle times of the PC. Scheduler for automatic backups is also available.
Crashplan is completely free for personal use. It can be used as a regular backup program. You only need to pay for the space in their DataCenter.
I like the software because of the ease of use it provides for online backup, and also because it's a free service for regular users. |
